Beautiful photo essay. This makes me realize that when I’m traveling to big cities, I should go to local universities and check out their libraries. It really shows how people (did?) respect(ed?) books and knowledge. I find it interesting how many of the (older) libraries resemble cathedrals. That’s very telling. Plus, I am a big of a fan of beautiful architecture.
Aside: if you’re in NYC, go check out the NY Public Library on Fifth Ave & 42nd Street. It’s incredible. And then walk down the road to check out Grand Central Terminal. Not spots you might normally think to wander through, but incredibly beautiful places.
And if you’re in Seattle, our public library is very (contemporary) and cool (and has a super-interesting gift shop!
