If you guessed that it’s commemorating the guy who threw his shoes at GWB, you’d be correct. According to the NY Daily News (a fine tabloid), this statue was unveiled in Tikrit (oh, that’s Saddam Hussein’s hometown. Sigh.) last Thursday. There’s even a poem honoring the journalist who threw his shoes at the Pres.
Notice the laughing lady with the thumbs up? Apparently that’s an international symbol, along with the “I’m choking” & “check please” symbols.
